The Story Behind
The Peculiar Path

Hi, I'm Lorra.

For more than twenty years I served tables while quietly dreaming of creating something with my own hands. The forests of Appalachia were always where I felt most at home, wandering beneath the trees, noticing the beauty hidden in ordinary things.

Today every piece I create begins with that same sense of wonder. Whether it's engraved wood, wrapped gemstones, preserved pieces of nature, or quiet rituals inspired by folklore, my hope is simple: that each creation reminds someone to slow down, breathe deeply, and rediscover the extraordinary hidden inside everyday life.

Found Along the Trail

A wand of rose quartz, hand-wrapped in copper, resting on a weathered stump

Late spring · the lower hollow

A Stump, Some Quartz, and a Long Quiet

I found a stump in the lower hollow where the moss had begun reclaiming the grain. Laid the new piece down for a photograph and the woods went still — just sun, and the soft hum of bees somewhere beyond the wild black raspberries.

The elders say rose quartz remembers tenderness — that it carries the soft places we forget we have.

"I was so lost and uncertain. Since wearing this, it feels like a fog has lifted. My decisions are clearer and I finally trust my own gut feelings. It's beautiful and so powerful."

Every piece leaves the bench wrapped in care — and now and then, a kind word finds its way back.

Good to Know

What is The Peculiar Path?

The Peculiar Path is a small Appalachian studio run by maker Lorra. She makes wire-wrapped gemstone jewelry, foraged talismans, and nature keepsakes, and offers custom laser engraving. Pieces are sold here and on Etsy, alongside free tarot, horoscope, numerology, and moon calendar tools.

How is the engraving done?

All engraving is done with precision laser engravers, an xTool F1 Ultra and an xTool M2, run by Lorra in her studio. Lasers make crisp, permanent marks on wood, leather, bamboo, acrylic, slate, and coated metal. Bare metal like copper or steel can be engraved on flat surfaces.

How much does custom engraving cost?

Custom engraving starts at $20, plus the cost of the item. Send a request with your item type, the words or date you want, and a font choice. Lorra reviews every request and replies with a final quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

What can I have engraved?

Popular choices include names, dates, short phrases like "I choose myself," coordinates, and small symbols. Common items are pendants, cuffs, wooden keepsakes, leather pieces, and stones. If you have something unusual in mind, choose "Other" on the request form and describe it.

Now and then — when a new piece comes off the bench, or a folktale finds me on a walk — I send a quiet letter. No noise, no marketing. Just a few words from someone who likes wandering the woods.

Until our paths cross again… keep wandering.
